World Mental Health Day: Everyday steps for mental wellbeing: Live Q&A

This World Mental Health Day, we’re sharing our commitment on making mental health and wellbeing for all a priority. With so much going on in the world around us right now, it can be easy to feel powerless or overwhelmed when it comes to looking after ourselves, and our family’s wellbeing. We want to help make caring for mental health easier, and are focusing on how we can all nurture mental wellbeing with small but meaningful actions.

We’re delighted to be joined by the following panellists:

  • Jayne James is a Training Associate for Rethink Mental Illness and Mental Health UK and is a passionate emotional health educator. She has a wealth of mental health experience, has delivered hundreds of school and workplace workshops and training courses, alongside volunteering with Samaritans for over 20 years, running her own training company, and delivering SafeTALK suicide awareness training.
  • Louisa Taylor is a qualified social worker, teacher, and mindfulness practitioner with over 28 years’ experience in direct work with children, young people and their families, supporting social and educational development. Alongside direct training and support, Louisa has also assisted organisations in developing relevant resources to support their client groups, as well as advising on policy and strategy. Louisa is currently a Training Associate for Mental Health UK’s young peoples’ programmes – Bloom and Your Resilience – directly training and supporting educators to deliver the UK wide 8-week wellbeing and resilience programme to young people.
  • Sue Holden is a Training Associate with Mental Health UK, self-employed trainer and researcher, and middle-aged mum of two, currently enjoying the novelty of being an empty nester (at least until they boomerang back)! Her focus is on gender, sexual health and mental wellbeing. Much of her work experience has been in sub-Saharan Africa but she is now mainly working with UK organisations. Based in Lancaster, she likes to get outdoors (when she remembers to detach herself from her computer), and also enjoys playing saxophone and singing.

Join us on Thursday 13 October at 1pm as we discuss the everyday steps that parents and families can take to look after themselves, and where we can turn to for support.

This session will be hosted by Amber Goodwin-Figes, Programme Support Officer at Mental Health UK.

To tune into the session, you’ll first need to create an account on the Parenting Hub, then simply log in on Thursday 13 October and go to the event page for the Q&A. If you have a question you’d like to put to our experts, you can either submit one in advance or ask it in the live chat function while the event is happening.
